yawn

As plagiarism outcries go, this seems pretty minor, but Atonement was such a great book that it bears watching. It should be noted that McEwan has backing from the right people on this.

Maybe it's just me, but I found Atonement to be one of McEwan's more boring books. I had been reading McEwan since The Cement Garden and I loved his literary-grotesque writing. Then he went just literary. Yawn.

Also, McEwan responds here.

For fans of books like Child in Time and earlier stuff, Atonement could come off a bit fluffy, no argument. Saturday would suggest he's a very different guy than his younger self
