Denis Johnson, one of the favourites made pretty short work of Ovenman by Jeff Parker. I've not read Ovenman and like a few friends of WordsWorth, I never finished (I know, I should have) Tree of Smoke.
Early days, but this year's lineup is very impressive and there are at least five heavyweights that could knock off Denis Johnson.
Round Two in a couple days I believe; that's Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano vs. Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name by Vendela Vida, a book I really liked but couldn't convince very many others about. A good bookseller aches for the ones that never found a home, so I have a soft spot for her.
