13 Treasures won the Uk's Waterstone's Prize and is a fun mystery about an old house, a sprawling forest, and maybe a few faeries! Faeries have been tormenting Tanya ever since they found out she has the Second Sight, writing about her visions in her diary. Afraid of anyone finding out about them, the Faeries cause Tanya to be banished to her grandmother's house, a huge property in the middle of nowhere, at the edge of Hangman's Wood.
At this point in the book I was reminded of The Secret Garden; there are only like 3 people around Tanya, but they are kind of terrible to live with. Tanya is mostly left to her own devices, and she understandably, begins searching the property. That's when she finds the secret door, and the secret library, opening up a whole mess of mystery needing to be solved. Including a huge family secret!
This is the author's first book and a sequel is due soon. My only disappointment is that Michelle Harrison is also an illustrator and while she stylizes the opening of each chapter with beautiful pen and ink drawings, I would have loved full-page illustrations throughout the book!
AND, we have a hardcover copy of 13 Treasures to give away! Good Luck!!
